FORMAT
2 Man Team - Pick your partner
Match Play - Five 9-hole matches within flight (four ball/best ball of team). The field will be divided into flights of six teams each. Each team will play every other team in that flight in a nine hole match, three matches on Saturday and two matches on Sunday. The low handicap player in the foursome will play at scratch and give the difference in handicap to the other players. Maximum differential one stroke per hole (½ strokes will be used).
POINT SCORING OF EACH MATCH
-
1 point for winning a hole and ½ point for halving the hole
-
1 point for winning the match and ½ point for tying the match
-
If a flight only has 5 teams: Each team will have a bye match, during which they will play a match against par. The team that you play against makes a score of par on every hole.
TIES / TIE-BREAKERS
Ties for 1st place in each flight will be determined by how the teams did against each other in their head-to-head match. If that match was tied, then by how they scored against the next highest placed team.
PAYOUTS
1st, 2nd & 3rd place in flight receive pro shop credit.
Flight winners participate in the shoot-out and receive additional cash prizes.
SHOOT-OUT
After the flight matches are completed on Sunday, there will be a five hole shoot-out (beginning on the 10th Hole) between the flight winners, plus two wild card teams, to determine the overall champion. The two wild card spots are earned by:
- the team that scored the most points without winning their flight *
- the team that scores the most points on Sunday (matches 4 & 5) without winning their flight **
The shoot-out will be an alternate shot format with teams being eliminated on every hole. One player will tee off on odd-numbered holes and his partner will tee off on even-numbered holes. Chip-offs will be used to determine elimination when there are ties.
The shoot-out will be played from the tees that you played during regulation play. Team handicaps for the shoot-out will be based on the players’ combined course handicaps and a five hole formula rounded to the nearest whole number.
All members not participating in the shoot-out are invited to ride around on golf carts and cheer for your favorite players.
ELIGIBILITY & DEADLINE
The field will be held to a maximum of 60 Teams. All MGA members are eligible to sign up at any time, but priority is based on the teams combined membership classification and tenure as explained below:
The registrant’s Pinetree Membership Classification, with priority given in the following order
- EQUITY UNRESTRICTED and YOUNG PROFESSIONAL
- EQUITY RESTRICTED / INTERMEDIATE
- SPORTING (Non-Equity) and NON-RESIDENT (Non-Equity)
Within each Pinetree Membership Classification, registrations will be further prioritized based on the registrant’s current monthly dues multiplied by the number of months tenure
Each team will be prioritized using the combined information above. The lowest membership class for the team will be applied first, then the sum of the dues multiplied by the tenure for the team.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR POINTS
Player of the Year points are awarded based on a team’s finish within their flight and bonus points are awarded to teams who make the shoot out. See the Player of the Year Policy for more details on point allocation.
NOTES
* Ties for the first wild card spot will be broken by comparing scores against the 1st place team in each respective flight, then 3rd place, 4th place, and so on.
** Ties for the second wild card spot will be broken first by points in the 5th match, then most points over last 6 holes played (holes 4-9 or 13-18), last 3 holes played (holes 7-9 or 16-18) then last hole played and so on until a winner is determined.
